Stamped Concrete Andover Massachusetts (MA)
A relatively new innovation in residential construction, stamped concrete, is a term that seems to encompass many different applications of concrete. Stamped concrete forms the basis for the most recent residential development trends, and has found a home in even more residential developments. Stamped concrete is easy to install, holds up under pressure and is quite effective in reducing costs for projects.
A stamped concrete building is similar to a concrete slab with a thin layer of cement mixed with air. It is built by laying out the shape, and then stamping into it. This process reduces cost and time as well as increasing resistance to wear and tear.
One of the major benefits of stamped concrete is that it can be placed on top of asphalt, concrete or brick. This allows for a more contemporary, natural appearance to any property. In many areas, other types of material is not allowed to be used and this makes the cost of a stucco job greater than most other alternatives. With stamped concrete, many local regulations can be relaxed for a construction project and added benefits often make the project cost significantly less.
Another benefit of stamped concrete is that it is strong enough to be used as a reinforcement for concrete slabs and without the need for cement boards. With cement boards and tile, new issues can arise after the first couple of years when they start to crack. With stamped concrete, the reinforcement can be removed and there is little to no alteration needed.
One of the biggest drawbacks to stamped concrete is the thickness of the concrete. When using a cement board as a support for a concrete slab, this thickness will need to be considered. Typically, on slab reinforcement, or trowel work, can be used in place of the cement board if the design calls for this.
As mentioned previously, there are many simple problems that may arise with the way the concrete is constructed. Often times, this is solved with more poured concrete and a concrete primer, however some of these problems can be easily corrected. By simply waiting to use a cement board, then adding more cement, an improvement in the area can be noticed and the costs reduced by as much as fifty percent.
A stucco job can save a homeowner thousands of dollars over a period of many years and a stamped concrete building is an additional investment that will pay for itself many times over. The best aspect of a stamped concrete building is that it has been proven to reduce costs, with many projects now being realized for well under half the cost of building using other methods.
